Monstergirl Nerd Club is a community event venue, research library, digital media studio, and production house!
In addition to holding our own events, we’re available for parties, photo and video creation, artist residencies and research visits. We also offer retro game equipment rental and on-set services for productions big and small, as well as a dedicated research space with a world class collection. Have us make new media for you, bring period-accurate gaming equipment to the set of your feature film, or call us for help with your research or archival footage needs!
Due to the need to be very careful when archiving retro electronics and physical media, we’re not a consumer rental store nor are we a lending library, but we can bring materials to the set of your production! Any rental includes the day rate for our expert, who will bring encyclopedic knowledge about nerdy media to your set alongside technical expertise, backup devices and tools to make sure this aspect of your production goes smoothly.
Or you can come to us! Individuals doing research for production, their own commercial developments or projects, reviews or documentary videos, or academic/non-profit research are welcome to join us at our NYC location where they can peruse our massive research library with an expert’s help. With advance scheduling, you can shoot or stream from here.
We have a massive collection of retro gaming gear, systems, controllers, lightguns and screens and over 2500 physical games from early Atari classics to today’s limited run indie releases for Switch or PS5. Additionally, researchers at our location can access thousands of digital titles from abandonware to steam or mini-console releases. We have a collection of independent homebrew and user translated emulated titles – and can help you find anything we are missing!
We’re also home to one of the world’s most comprehensive comic and sequential art research libraries, featuring a complete Marvel Omnibus collection spanning their entire history of publication. Monstergirl Nerd Club also hosts an active event space including a top tier Magic The Gathering collection, mini-arcade nights featuring curated retro selections and much more!
We also double as a production house – if you need specifically recorded reference footage, freelancers to hire for photo/video work, or need to rent some video gear last minute while you are here doing your research, we can help! We’ve been doing commercial and fine art photography for over 25 years and video for 10. We can also do basic video editing, retouching, digital design work and web services on premises. We have a more substantial network of freelancers we use for post production we would be happy to manage for you. We offer special day rates for productions that need both equipment rental and additional crew on set.
We’ve got a sliding scale for non-profit and academic research and small creators from marginalized groups. All library access is by appointment only. And no, sorry, we do not sell any material or equipment – sometimes we do buy stuff though!
